I think with you, therefore I am happy: Psychotherapy Training, between Passion and Technique

Autori:

The training of psychotherapists may not consists in solely learning a number of techniques, but should rather pay particular attention to the psychotherapist’s subjectivity, which creates the essential condition of access to complexity of the transferential dynamics present in the therapy process, as some research carried out in this field demonstrates. This paper highlights how the growth tools of both patient and therapist do indeed weave together, giving rise to new subjectivities within the relational dimension. The idea of reflection-in-action, expressed in TA with the concept of sloppiness, demonstrates that it becomes genuine research both in training and in clinical practice, in which methodologies are assumed, tested and then evaluated. In order to stimulate the reflective space and to keep up the learning process, also from the cognitive and emotional point of view, in training the therapists’ group should ease into each single trainee the sense and courage of being part of a whole, part of a co-constructed path based upon understanding and mutual listening. Attention paid to the relationship becomes core in the evaluation process too, as is explained in the latter part of the paper. According to the OK-ness principle, evaluation is here intended as an inter-subjective, contractual and negotiating process.
